During a recent presentation for the FF-TIP Lab, Katie Romzek, a first-year graduate student, presented her current research on depression and social distancing for her master’s thesis.

Katie first discussed the concept of social distancing, which differs from the context of COVID-19. She defined it as the amount of physical or emotional distance you want from someone. Given that definition, Katie’s research design worked to establish the effects of depression on social distancing and how asymmetrical tipping points can be evaluated. Lastly, she identified the overall importance of her study and the challenges she is faced with when completing her research design.
After presenting, Katie took a “step back” to allow her fellow lab members to discuss potential ways to better her research design and question. The goal of this process is to enable others to think about this project as if it is their own study, which opens up the door for alternative ways to view the research, and can produce new ideas.
Katie’s study is ongoing, and we can’t wait to see her progress in the coming months!
