Marina Morris: Step-Back Presentation

During a recent presentation at the FF-TIP Lab, Marina Morris, a first-year graduate student, shared insights into her master’s thesis topic on social withdrawal and the concept of hikikomori.

Marina began by discussing existing research on social withdrawal and current trends in marriage and birth rates. She then defined hikikomori as extreme social withdrawal, highlighting three key identifying elements. Marina also addressed the gaps in knowledge regarding hikikomori and social withdrawal and the challenges she encountered in developing her research design.

After her presentation, Marina took a “step back,” inviting her fellow lab members to assume the research as their own and develop different thoughts or approaches to conducting it. Overall, this collaborative process encourages diverse perspectives and the generation of new ideas.

Marina’s study is ongoing, and we eagerly anticipate the progress of her research in the coming months!
