Marina, a second-year PhD student in the FF-TIP Lab, recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Sakamoto of Nihon University in Japan. After being introduced in early fall 2024, Marina began working with Dr. Sakamoto’s existing dataset, which she developed into a conference poster for the 2025 annual MPA conference. This initial project soon expanded, with Marina virtually attending Dr. Sakamoto’s lab meetings as they worked together to develop the poster into a full manuscript.
In addition to this work, Dr. Sakamoto generously offered to collect data from a Japanese sample to support an extension of Marina’s master’s thesis.
After months of productive virtual collaboration, Marina was grateful for the opportunity to visit Dr. Sakamoto in person this past November while traveling to Japan to see family. During her visit to Nihon University, they spent time discussing their research and catching up in person. We are excited to see how this collaboration continues to grow. Great work, Marina!
