Lab Happenings: Katie’s Thesis Defense Prep and Marina’s Step Back!

Last Tuesday’s lab meeting featured presentations from Katie and Marina!

Katie kicked off our meeting by practicing her upcoming master’s thesis defense. Her research, titled “How Can I Help?”: Coercive and Collaborative Helping Strategies in Response to Suicidality, explores different approaches to helping individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts. We had the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and help Katie prepare for her defense. We are so proud of Katie! She has worked so hard and it has been such a joy to see her grow and succeed on this journey. While we are excited to see where she goes next, we are also sad to see her go. 😦

Next, Marina led a Step Back presentation. She introduced several interesting psychological and cultural variables and invited us all to brainstorm together. With data from participants in both the United States and Japan, we explored potential research questions and discussed how these variables might relate to one another across cultures.

Stay tuned for next Tuesday’s festivities!
